Abstract

Abstract:

Background : Temporomandibular myofascial Pain is very common postoperative complication following oral surgery. This study was done to study the effect of Diacutaneous Fibrolysis on temporomandibular myofascial pain post Oral surgery.
Objective : It will be hypothesized that Diacutaneous Fibrolysis has effect on temporomandibular myofascial pain post Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
Methods: Group A (the study group) was given Diacutaneous Fibrolysis in addition to traditional physiotherapy program which include TENS, range of motion exersice and massage, 3 times a week for four weeks, while Group B (the control group) was given only the traditional physiotherapy program, 3 times a week for four weeks. Assessment of pain was done at baseline and following 4 weeks through a Visual analogue scale (VAS) and Pressure pain threshold (PPT) algometer.
Results: Group A study group showed significantly greater improvements in VAS and PPT in comparison with Group B control group (p < 0.001). Effect size = 0.5

Conclusions: Diacutaneous Fibrolysis effectively improve temporomandibular myofascial pain following oral surgery.
